"I love volunteering with Pedal MCR! I have gone from not knowing how to remove a bike wheel to being able to adjust brakes, and fix new brake and gear cables!" Lanks
" Pedal has given me the chance to meet some great people and learn skills I never would have on my own." Tom
There are 3 levels of volunteer.
Core Volunteer/Co-op members
They are responsible for a shift of 3 hours/week, they help to maintain the space. One monthly meeting is mandatory. To apply to be a core volunteer/co-op member you must already be a committed volunteer.
Committed volunteers
Must work at least 3 hours a month in Autumn/Winter and 6 hours a month in Spring/Summer, either in Tool Club/ 1 to 1 Learn and Repair on a weekly basis, or by doing odd tasks from the jobs list regularly (may include flyering, postering, cleaning the space, building up bikes etc.) After volunteering consistently for one full month, they are entitled to the following privileges:
New parts at 30% over wholesale and cheap to free used parts (at the discretion of the shift mechanic), and membership privileges. The meeting may decide to offer keys to a long-term committed volunteer.
Impromptu volunteers
They are people who ask if they can do some work for that day or can volunteer their time from time to time but cannot commit to regular shifts. We offer work as a trade for shop use/assistance, and necessary used parts (and occasionally a new tube). The volunteer is referred to a list of jobs, and the value is determined by the co-op member on duty. Volunteers that complete 3 full shifts get FREE membership, offering 10% discount on classes and free use of Tool Club.
